Wrap Me Up
Flower Shroud
Wrap Me Up, Flower Shroud is a ritualistic, environmental art activation. At the centre of the installation is a durational performance between artists Alex Musgrave and Rebecca Palmer.
The artists become echoes of each other, mutable givers and receivers. They offer and absorb actions of tenderness and care. The body becomes a form, a landscape, an earth. The process demonstrates our intersectional feminist/ queer perspective on humanity, ecology, grief, caretaking, time and decay. It addresses our unfolding non-binary relationship with the processes of death, health and sexual currency in collective and asks the participant attendees how they honour their own intimate relationships with renewal, transformation and decay.
Wrap Me Up, Flower Shroud is accompanied by an improvised score that references traditions of keening, wailing and song.
Wrap Me Up/Flower Shroud was installed as a five-hour durational piece in Bobby Niven’s greenhouse in Johnston Terrace Community Gardens on August 16th 2025. It was supported in kind by Edinburgh Art Festival who facilitated a weeklong residency in the space. Tyler Thompson performed the accompanying score on guitar and Alice Millar photographed the piece on reclaimed 1960’s film stock.
Three limited edition Alice Millar prints are available size and price by request.
Wrap Me Up/Flower Shroud can be installed in greenhouses, gallery spaces or open sided tents. Please contact us here for more details or to program the piece.
Flower Shroud was initially conceived during covid and the ritual was filmed as part of the Earthing Project in Malleny Gardens, Balerno, Edinburgh.
Alex Musgrave and Rebecca Palmer co-created the ritual and it was shot, witnessed and co-directed by Morag McKinnon.
“A captivating experience drawing on one’s senses. The greenhouse space embodied a rich stillness, creating a meditative and healing space awakened through aroma, texture, thoughtful placement of tangible items and energy, adorn and held between worlds.”
“Sometimes life gives you moments in time that are so pure and true, that only tears can come anywhere close to honouring what is present. This was one of those times. I will cherish it forever.”
“I found the whole experience ethereal and beautiful and extremely thought-provoking. I guess it will mean different things to different people depending on where they are in their life. It’s an exhibition that I’ve spoken of a lot to my friends, one that seems to have lingered in my head. I often find myself thinking about it, almost in a meditative way.”
“Out of space, out of time ephemeral moment.”
